Sanding and Refinishing

Why Have a Professional Refinish Hardwood Floors?

Are your wood floors worn and tired? Would you like to breathe life back into your current flooring without installing a new floor? Do you Live in the greater Portland Maine area? With Quality Floor Finishers you are in luck! Wood floors that have become unsightly from years of wear can be restored to their original beauty with our years of expertise in wood floor sanding and refinishing. Machine sanding removes the old finish and exposes new wood, bringing beautiful old hardwood back to life, especially when paired with deep penetrating stains to seal in the look and protect the wood flooring.

We offer a variety of stains in both standard wood tones and custom colors. Since stains get their color from dyes or pigments, they may fade over time with prolonged exposure to bright light. We recommend using pigmented penetrating sealers when refinishing, as they enhance the natural grain without covering it. A popular trend is white oak plank flooring with an invisible finish, which preserves and highlights the wood's natural color.

While skilled home craftsmen may want to sand floors and DIY refinish their hardwood, it is usually advisable to have a professional floor refinisher do the work. This will ensure the best results with the least headaches. Let our decades of experience and specialized knowledge make your life easier.

Worried About the Mess? Here’s How Floor Refinishing Works with Quality Floor Finishers.

We use the most modern equipment and best practices to keep your home clean during the entire floor refinishing process. Our equipment uses advanced dust collection systems to keep dust from piling up or filling the air. We also use plastic to close off rooms we will not be working in, keeping the dust to a minimum and only in areas where we are working. There might be a small amount of dusting and vacuuming required due to the nature of the resurfacing work, but far less than you would expect if trying to complete the project yourself.

With the sanding process, your baseboards may get scuffed. This should be expected as we need to get right up to the baseboard to remove all of your old finish. As a result, your baseboards may need to be repainted after the refinishing is complete. This is typical and routine following a hardwood floor refinishing project, though we will make our best effort to protect your baseboards.

While you should expect your finish to look very nice, it will likely not be quite as perfect as a true factory finish due to the various factors beyond our control in an active home environment. If you have pets, for example, fur may be stuck to something high in the room (such as a ceiling fan, window trim, etc), as well as human hair and dust that was not initially visible. Carpets from another area of the house may also have loose fibers that can float free as the carpet gets walked on. However, we do our best to manage these free-floating particles.

We pride ourselves on being environmentally friendly, offering various finishes that are beautiful and, beneficial to chemically sensitive individuals. Our dedication to you, your flooring project, and providing excellent flooring in Southern Maine ensures that when we are finished, your floors will look spectacular and your experience with our team will be memorable.
